Bible Leadership is an elective course designed to train students in Christian discipleship and equip them to be a positive impact in the spiritual lives of students at MVCS. Students will develop personal faith practices, leadership skills, as well as increased competence in biblical interpretation and Christian worldview thinking/application. The course empowers students to connect with (and in some cases mentor/disciple) younger students and create the curriculum to lead small Bible Study/discipleship groups.

This course establishes a foundational overview of the Old Testament as the first part of the story of God's redemption of His creation. In their study of the Old Testament students will explore and understand some of the basic themes of the Biblical narrative. Students will also develop essential Bible study skills and use them in engaging ways throughout the year. The study of the Old Testament will give students many opportunities to apply the powerful truths they learn.

In this course, we will focus primarily on the writings of the New Testament with an emphasis on the person and work of Jesus Christ. We will study the story of the Kingdom of God through the birth, life, teachings, death, and resurrection of the promised Messiah. There will be development of proper hermeneutical methods and practical applications of biblical truth. Students will explore the story of Jesus of Nazareth, his closest followers, and the impact of the early church on the world. Students will be challenged to evaluate the truth claims of the Gospel against their own worldview, beliefs, and presuppositions with special reflection to the counter-cultural nature of Jesus’s teachings and practices.
