AP Art Studio includes AP Drawing, AP 2-D Art and Design, and AP 3-D Art and Design. These are advanced studio art courses designed for art students who wish to pursue college level studies while in high school. Emphasis will be on focused investigation into a thematic approach where fresh and original connections are made between concepts and materials. AP Art Studio invites students to more deeply investigate the cultural, historical, and aesthetic aspects of art through independent study, verbal and written commentaries, and sketchbook exploration that will foster effective critical observation.

Students will be challenged to solve complex problems in 15 Sustained Investigation pieces of artwork and encouraged to make reflective personal visual statements during and after the process. How can I more skillfully synthesize materials, processes, and ideas? How can experimentation, reflection, review, and refinement assist in the process of creating? It is the purpose of this course to answer these questions and explore the creative process. It is also the purpose of this course to answer such questions as one explores God’s gift of creation and engages in the creative process through Christ-center educational excellence.
