Art I sets a foundation for students as they explore the elements of art, the principles of design, content, composition, style, techniques, and materials. Students can expect a wide variety of 2 and 3-dimensional experiences that includes drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and mixed media. Art I invites students to investigate the cultural, historical, spiritual, religious, social and aesthetic aspects of art through individual and group projects, verbal and written critiques, and sketchbook/journal exploration. This class is designed to develop skills of perception, problem-solving, and critical thinking and evaluating. What are the roles of artists in society? How does art reflect our spirituality? What is the function of art? It is the purpose of this course to begin to answer these questions and explore the creative process, from a Christian viewpoint.
