In Art I students have opportunities to function as artists, as well as learners of the arts. Artists have to be curious. By developing curiosity about themselves, others and the world, students become effective learners, inquirers and creative problem-solvers. Students develop through creating in ways that engage and convey feelings, experiences and ideas. It is through this practice that students acquire new skills and master those skills developed in prior learning.
MYP arts has four objectives of equal importance and value: knowing and understanding; developing skills; thinking creatively; responding. These objectives enrich learning. With these in mind Art I is designed to develop skills of perception, inquiry, problem-solving, critical thinking, and evaluation. Art I sets a foundation to develop these skills while experimenting with two and three-dimensional techniques, methods, and materials while making informed choices through research and reflection. What are the roles of artists in society? How does art reflect our spirituality? What is the function of art? It is the purpose of this course to begin to answer these questions as one explores God’s gift of creation and engages in the creative process through Christ-center educational excellence.
