Language & Literature 6 is a foundation course of English/Language Arts skills in the areas of
reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and visually representing. These abilities are developed
within the context of core literature units including novels, speeches, short stories, non-fiction texts,
and poetry. Each unit of literature stems from the foundation of magnifying God and reflecting Him
through creativity and communication. Students are encouraged to explore personal inquiry
throughout the units and to develop critical thinking skills. Literary devices such as theme,
characterization, symbolism, figurative language, conflict, setting, and plot are taught to provide a
strong foundation for analytical writing. The focus of writing includes the practice and mastery of
several modes, such as literary analysis, expository, narrative, persuasive, and compare and contrast.
